In their 140th Anniversary Year, Maison Langlois is delighted to announce the addition of a brand new cuvée to their permanent range, the Langlois Blanc de Blancs 2020 Extra Brut. Not only is this
their first certified organic Crémant de Loire, but it is also their first Blanc de Blancs. The release of this new Extra-Brut cuvée marks a turning point in the history of Langlois, as the embodiment of their commitment to the environmental work carried out by the House over the years.

Without a doubt, Langlois is known for their expertise in Chenin Blanc, and this Blanc de Blanc cuvée has been created to celebrate the brilliance of the House’s signature grape, with the purity of the Chenin clearly shining through. This emblematic grape makes up the majority of the blend (58%) lending a freshness and refinement to the wine, which is then underlined by the liveliness of the Chardonnay, the lack of malolactic fermentation and a low dosage of 2g/l.

The 2020 vintage saw both the Chenin and Chardonnay grapes reach optimum ripeness, thanks to a warm summer punctuated by only a little rain. The fine, well-balanced vintage has made a lasting  impression, with the start of the House’s harvest the earliest on record. The early harvest, which began on 19th August, preserved the freshness of the grapes and their lovely fruity aromas.

The House maintains a rigorous approach to preserving the highest standards of production, with grapes harvested exclusively by hand in small crates, followed by a gentle pressing just a few hours after harvesting at 200kg/100l (compared with 150kg/100l and 160kg/102l respectively in the Crémant de Loire and Champagne AOP specifications). The wine is 100% cuvée selected, aged on lees for over 3 years in the House’s historic tuffeau cellars and rested for over 6 months after disgorgement. The extended ageing in cellar was a decision made to allow this new cuvée to perfect its finesse and exquisite aromatic palette in bottle before release.

“This 2020 vintage marks the birth of a new cuvée, which is always a special moment in the life of a House. Year after year, tasting after tasting, we have refined the blend to create this wonderful Blanc de Blancs, which can be considered an ambassador to both our qualitative and environmental ambitions.” François-Régis de Fougeroux, Managing Director of Maison Langlois. This wine has a finesse of acacia on the nose, with elegant honey notes and a menthol hint. On the palate, it has a lively attack which leads to a great tension and enveloping roundness before a long, saline finish with hints of citrus fruits

Delicious when paired with seafood and fine fish dishes.

Just 10,300 bottles of the Langlois Blanc de Blancs 2020 Extra Brut have been produced, and it will shortly be available from UK outlets with an RSP of £29.
