At Mentzendorff, sustainability is a core value that drives everything we do. We are committed to reducing our environmental impact while partnering with brands that share our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) values. A recent highlight is Champagne Bollinger’s achievement in becoming B-Corp certified—a significant milestone not only for the brand but also for the wider Groupe Bollinger family. This certification underscores their dedication to high social and environmental performance, which aligns perfectly with our own sustainability goals.
Another highlight of sustainable practices is our Fladgate Brand, Taylors, who pioneered the Porto Protocol empowering growers to give back to the land through living vineyards and thriving ecosystems. They foster a collaborative and innovative approach creating a community of change makers who are committed to making a positive impact on the planet.
As well as working with purpose-driven brands, we’ve been focusing on our own CSR strategy, built around three key pillars: People, Environment, and Community. Our CSR programme challenges us to meet ambitious carbon reduction objectives while supporting business growth. At the same time, it encourages our team to engage in initiatives that lie at the heart of our operations, from charitable and volunteering endeavours to promoting the wellbeing of our staff.
At Mentzendorff, we believe that sustainability is about more than just business—it’s about creating positive change in the world and fostering a workplace that values people, the planet, and the communities we serve.
Innovative Green Fuel Trial with HVO Fuel – Reducing Carbon Emissions by 90%
As part of our Sustainability initiatives for 2024, we have collaborated with our 3PL (Third Party Logistics Partner) Great Bear, to trial the use of HVO (Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil) fuels for our dedicated London Van service. HVO has the potential to reduce carbon emissions by 90%, and we’re targeting a total reduction of 9 tonnes of CO₂ emissions across 2025.
The trial has been a success so far, providing a greener and more eco-friendly service to our customers. We’re committed to exploring more sustainable options and are currently developing a long-term plan to extend this initiative across our entire fleet, contingent on the trial’s continued success.

People
At the core of our company strategy is our commitment to People. We are dedicated to creating a culture where employees feel valued, safe, and motivated to contribute their best.
To drive this, we have established a CSR Team Champions network. These champions represent their respective departments and meet monthly to share ideas, align on strategic initiatives, and communicate progress. A key aspect of their work is running our Wellbeing Charter, which includes: mental health training, weekly Pilates, social tennis and a book club!
As part of our People strategy, we have introduced a Personal Development plan for each employee. This plan is designed to nurture talent, foster individual growth, and support career development. We actively encourage all employees to pursue WSET training and other professional qualifications that enhance their expertise and benefit their roles.
Additionally, to ensure ongoing employee satisfaction and engagement, we participate in the Great Place to Work scheme. This allows us to gather valuable feedback, ensuring our employees’ voices are heard. We have set ambitious targets, aiming for an improvement in our Overall Perception scores of +3% and a Trust Index of +3% across 2025.
We will be focusing on reviewing and further developing our EDI ((Equality, Diversity and Inclusion) strategy for 2025, building on the training we implemented for all staff in 2024. Our targets include evaluating our EDI in the business, setting clear short and long term KPIS for measurements and areas of improvement, fostering an inclusive and diverse workplace.
Our Key People Targets
- Monthly CSR Champion Meetings
- Conducting Annual Employee Satisfaction Surveys
- Improving our GPTW Perception and Trust Index Scores by 3%
- Training for 80% of employees
- Developing our EDI Strategy
By focusing on development, well-being, and fostering open communication, we’re striving to create a workplace where everyone can thrive!
Environment
At Mentzendorff, sustainability is at the heart of our operations, and our commitment to making a positive impact is embodied in our second pillar: Environment.
In 2022, we established a baseline Carbon Footprint, marking the beginning of our journey toward a greener future. In 2023, we reduced our carbon impact by 7% through strategic improvements in our shipping routes and business travel practices and are continuing to work to reduce this going forward.
We are committed to transparency in our environmental efforts. We measure and report our progress annually, ensuring we stay on track with our short- and long-term goals. One of the highlights of our environmental strategy is our HVO Trial, which we plan to expand in 2025 and beyond.
As part of our ongoing commitment to sustainability, our office is powered by 100% renewable energy, and we use responsibly sourced, recyclable packaging for all sample and office deliveries.
We believe that sustainability is a shared journey, which is why every employee at Mentzendorff is offered Carbon Literacy Training. This equips our team with the knowledge to make a meaningful impact and empowers our CSR Champions to engage and update colleagues during monthly meetings.
Our Key Environmental Targets:
- Conducting Annual Carbon Footprints, with plans to extend the assessment to our entire supply chain in 2025.
- Expanding our HVO Trial, aiming for a reduction of 9 tonnes of carbon by 2025.
- Improving Shipping Practices, particularly for longer lead-time brands, to reduce environmental impact.
- Conducting a Bottle Weight and Packaging Study, setting targets to collaborate with suppliers and promote greener packaging solutions.
- Publishing a Sustainability Booklet, to showcase the CSR initiatives of our suppliers and share best practices.
- Building a Greener Company Travel Policy, focusing on reducing the carbon footprint of business travel.
Mentzendorff’s Mission: We are committed to embedding environmental sustainability in every strategic and operational decision, ensuring that our business practices create long-term value for both the planet and our stakeholders.
COMMUNITY
At Mentzendorff, we are deeply committed to giving back to our local community and the industries we serve. As part of this, we actively partner with organisations such as the WSTA (Wine & Spirit Trade Association) and The Drinks Trust. For 2024, we have selected four key charities to support: Hospitality Action, The Felix Project, Thrive, and The Drinks Trust.
To foster a culture of community awareness within the company, we have introduced a Celebration Calendar. This calendar highlights key social causes and important dates for our team to observe. We’ve had guest speakers for events like International Women’s Day and Black History Month, and our employees are encouraged to engage in various initiatives throughout the year.
As a proud supporter of the hospitality industry, Mentzendorff has been actively involved with Hospitality Action. In 2024, we raised money by participating in their Summer Challenge, where our team collectively covering over 1,500 miles on foot, by bike or on the water. Additionally, we supported their Annual Gala with both financial contributions and stock donations. Hospitality Action plays a vital role in offering assistance to those who have worked or are currently working within the hospitality sector in the UK.
In our ongoing efforts to support the local community, Mentzendorff partnered with Thrive, an organization that encourages social inclusion and personal development. In 2024, 60% of our employees volunteered one day each to give back, and we are committed to increasing this participation to 80% by 2025.
Through these partnerships and initiatives, Mentzendorff continues to play an active role in creating positive change, both within our industry and in the wider community.
