Taylor’s Unveils The Globe: The Fourth Limited Edition from Its Historical Bottle Collection
Taylor’s Port unveils The Globe, the latest addition to the highly sought after Taylor’s Historical Limited Editions. Reflecting on the success of previous releases, Adrian Bridge, Taylor’s Managing Director, emphasized the company’s dedication to celebrating the rich heritage of Port while embracing modern innovation. He commented, “The launch of our fourth historical bottle is a testament to the enduring legacy of Port, encapsulating both our tradition of excellence and forward-thinking approach. Presented in bespoke, collectible bottles housed in elegant packaging, these limited editions are set to captivate both dedicated Port connoisseurs and newcomers alike.” Bridge also highlighted the universal appeal of The Globe, stating, “Its timeless design and historical significance make it an ideal gift for any occasion, embodying the essence of craftsmanship and tradition.”
The Globe draws inspiration from the distinctive ‘shaft and globe’ design that was prevalent in mid-17th century English wine bottles. This design, emblematic of an era when bottles were crafted through mouth-blowing techniques, harks back to a time when English bottle-making transitioned from wood-burning to coal-fuelled furnaces. These spherical vessels, with their thicker walls, were ideal for storage and serving, reflecting the meticulous craftsmanship of the period. As the precursor to the iconic ‘onion’ bottle, which would later become synonymous with Taylor’s in 1692, The Globe pays tribute to this pivotal development in the history of Port production.
Crafted from a carefully selected blend of Port wines drawn from Taylor’s extensive tawny reserves, The Globe embodies the hallmark richness and complexity that Taylor’s is renowned for. The blend has been meticulously curated to deliver a balanced and harmonious profile, offering a distinct, robust finish that is a direct result of the company’s legendary aging process in seasoned oak casks.
David Guimaraens, Taylor’s Head Winemaker, praised the blend, stating, “The exceptional richness and depth of flavour that define Taylor’s style are vividly expressed in this blend. It culminates in a remarkably long and distinctive finish, showcasing the craftsmanship that has been perfected over generations.”
The unique presentation of The Globe reflects its historical significance. The bottle is adorned with an engraved ‘4XX’ symbol, a reference to the company’s earliest known trademark, which dates back to its founding in 1692. This distinctive mark serves as a nod to the long-standing heritage and legacy of Taylor’s as one of the most respected names in the Port industry.
The Globe, part of Taylor’s highly anticipated Historical Collection, will be available for purchase at leading wine merchants from March, with a recommended retail price of £33.00. This limited edition release offers collectors and wine enthusiasts an opportunity to own a piece of Port history, beautifully encapsulated in a bottle that blends tradition with modern elegance.
