Maison Saint Aix is nestled in the rolling Provence hills, north east of Aix-en-Provence, and is one of the largest Domaines in the AOP Coteaux d’Aix-en-Provence with a holding of 75 hectares. At 420m above sea level, it’s also one the highest.
In a nutshell: Maison Saint Aix is a family-owned winery that was established in 2009. Drawn from one of Provence’s most celebrated terroirs, AIX Rosé is created to be the purest possible expression of what a rosé wine can be.
AIX Rosé has become a benchmark for Provence Rosé and has become renowned for large formats. The AIX logo is a symbol that captures the essence of making rosé, 420m up in the Provençal hills. Much has changed on the domaine over the last decade. But through it all, one thing has remained constant – the ancient stone gateway that welcomes you onto the estate. At Maison Saint Aix, the door is literally always open – leading to a place where the vines meet the sky; a place of generous grapes and effortless days in the sun.
The terroir: The majority of the soil on which the grapes are grown is either stony clay and limestone, sandy/gravelly or stony with a clay of loamysand matrix on the terraces of the Arc and the Durance. The vines are planted at an altitude between 400m to 420m with a climate of cool nights, hot days and regular Mistral winds. These elements provide perfect growing conditions for the Grenache, Syrah and Cinsault grapes that make up this wine. The domaine’s 50-60 year-old Grenache vines ensure the highest quality juice, while the fruit from the younger vines brings freshness. To maintain the harmony of the land, they run a busy replanting schedule – replacing up to 4 hectares a year with new vines.
The AIX ‘personality’: Born from generosity, AIX is a wine for people who enjoy life; for people who enjoy celebrating in style. It is a wine that brings people together to share a glass, a meal, a story, a moment.
